CSCA 2026: What Applicants Should Know

August 16, 20262 min read

If you are applying for a bachelor's degree in China in 2026, CSCA is one of the terms you are likely to see more often.

What Is CSCA?

CSCA stands for China Scholastic Competency Assessment. It is a standardized academic test for international students applying to undergraduate programs in mainland China. The idea is simple: students come from different school systems, so universities can use a common academic assessment as another way to understand an applicant's level.

Which Subjects Are Tested?

Depending on the university and major, the exam can involve Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Professional Chinese. Some science subjects can be taken in English, while Professional Chinese is tested in Chinese. The important thing is that you should not assume every university asks for the same subjects.

Check Universities Before You Register

The mistake I would avoid is registering for an exam first and checking your universities later. Do the opposite. Build your university shortlist, open the latest admission guide for each program, and write down exactly what CSCA subjects or scores are required. Then prepare for the right combination.

Why It Matters for Scholarships

For scholarship applicants, CSCA has also become more important. Some 2026 undergraduate scholarship routes now list a valid CSCA score as part of the required documents. That means students need to think about the test early enough and not leave it until the week before an application deadline.

How Hard Is the Exam?

The exam itself should not be treated like something impossible. Most of the material is based on high-school academic knowledge. The real challenge is planning: knowing what subjects you need, when the exam is available, and how your score fits into each university's requirements.

One Simple Spreadsheet

My advice is to make one simple spreadsheet with your target universities, major, application deadline, scholarship deadline, CSCA subjects and required documents. That small step can save you from a lot of confusion later.
